Cottage Spin Sew:
Cottage – derived from Cottage Industry meaning a small-scale home-based, family or community run business
Spin – drawing out and twisting fibers to form a yarn
Sew – joining pieces of fabric together using a needle and thread
Spinning
Preparing the fiber and spinning it into yarn is all done by hand.
We only use non-toxic dyes, Kool-Aid for animal-based fibers and Rit dyes for plant-based fibers.
Furthermore, we dye the fibers in small batches. As a result, we get excellent color and color retention.
Using Kool-Aid allows you to discover new colors.
We create How-To videos, photographs and complete instruction on every aspect of the process from raw fiber to finished yarn.
Sewing
We create, draft and sew our own patterns for clothing and other items.
As well as provide excellent references and sources to help you learn to sew, improve your sewing skills, make patterns and create your own styles.
Additionally, references to source materials needed to complete your projects.
